Attendance at a course is mandatory for anyone wishing to hunt wild turkeys in Ontario for the first time. However, these courses are also open to nonhunters interested in the wild turkey.
What will I learn at an Ontario Wild Turkey Hunter Education Course?
The course will provide information on the natural history of wild turkeys, hunting safety and ethics, hunting regulations, hunting techniques, equipment and calling. All courses are taught by experienced wild turkey hunters.
How do I qualify for a turkey hunting licence?
At the end of the course day, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) gives a written, multiple-choice exam. Everyone who passes the exam will receive the copy of the exam necessary to purchase a turkey hunting licence.
What else should I know?
The MNRF/OFAH reserve the right to cancel any course due to insufficient pre-registration.
Course fees are $35 (premium added to the Toronto Sportsmen's Show, which includes show admission). Course fees are in Canadian dollars (taxes included), are non-refundable and may not be transferred to another party. Refunds are only available if the course is cancelled. If you are unable to attend your selected date you can transfer to another course if space remains. It is very important that you bring a hard writing surface (i.e, clipboard), a pen or pencil and your outdoors card (if you have one). All day courses start at 9:00 am.
Your registration can not be processed without payment. Ontario Wild Turkey Hunter Education Course registrations will close at 10:00 am on the Tuesday before the scheduled course date (Thursday evening courses close on the Monday before the course date).
